Two key employees of the InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) were recently recruiting at Les Roches, the famous Swiss hospitality school. This visit was particularly emotional for Mr. Alvaro Rey, General Manager at InterContinental Park Lane Hotel in London, as he graduated from Les Roches in 1983.
Numerous students, CV in hand, were heading to the presentation room at the end of a spring afternoon in Bluche. They were attending IHG group’s presentation, but also showed extreme interest in hearing the story of the Les Roches Alumni and about his career path since his graduation. Mr. Rey explained his career with passion as he talked about his work experience in different InterContinental Hotels in Colombia, Argentina, Middle East, Australia and UK and how he moved up the career ladder. “Since I graduated, I have been able to apply for many years what I have learned at Les Roches. At school, you learn the basics but it is time and experience that make what you are”. Since his graduation in 1983, he returned to Bluche for a graduation speech in 2001. “To come here is like coming back home. I have so many great memories! Even if the school grew tremendously since my time, I find the same spirit when I come here. It is still a big family and there is a lot of love from what the students and teachers do”.
Asides from the memories, IHG group was at Les Roches to recruit new talent for its numerous hotels throughout the world. As Mrs. Nicola Tibbells, HR Director for IHG Europe explained: the group opens one hotel every two days. IHG plans to open 1’275 hotels in the next 18 months. “This is why we were here looking for talented people” said the HR manager. “We are recruiting in Les Roches because we think it is one of the best hospitality schools in the world”. During their visit, the two IHG managers had more than 30 interviews planned.
Alvaro Rey promised that he will not take too long before returning to Les Roches. “I will come back every year now, not only because I like it but because I believe in the school and I think there is a lot of well prepared professionals here and we have lot to offer at InterContinental.”
IHG group is one of the 100 companies visiting Les Roches every year to recruit talented students. This year only, brands like Mandarin Oriental- Hyde Park London, Louis Vuitton, Ritz Carlton, Hyatt, Four Seasons, Disneyland Paris, Orient Express Worldwide, Moevenpick Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Rezidor and many more have come, or plan to come, to recruit Les Roches students for internship or future graduates for employment. The Les Roches graduates are highly appreciated by the hospitality industry. Each student has on average three job offers upon graduation, while 90 percent of the students have secured employment the moment they graduate.
