The events industry is flourishing and the management of events has become increasingly popular within the hospitality, tourism, leisure and sports sectors.
Les Roches has decided to give its students the opportunity to understand the basics of event management and learn to effectively plan and deliver all types of events, from corporate meetings, incentive trips and conferences to exhibitions, festivals and sporting events.
To give our students an amazing foretaste of the “wow factor” of event planning, we have invited Simon Graveling, producer of Olympic-scale Ceremonies to come and share his experience of how a public mega event is created, planned and carried out, in a Event Management presentation on April 12th, 3.45pm in the Lobby.
Simon Graveling has been in the live events industry since the early eighties, a producer of Olympic-scale Ceremonies. His company frequently tackles the most demanding aspects of staging the Ceremonies of the Olympic Games. He was instrumental in Athens 2004 and has also consulted to organizing committees in Beijing, the Asian Games in Doha and the IOC itself.
Last summer he returned to Athens to serve as Head of Ceremonies and Production Project Director for the 2011 Special Olympics World summer Games. Through the course of his career, Simon has managed leading event agencies and specialist suppliers internationally that produce corporate events of every kind for world leading brands, create experiential environments from museums to visitor centres and deliver huge public events.
He estimates that around half of the world’s population has seen an event that he has helped to create – he is ‘working on the other half!’
On Friday, April 13th Simon will present two interactive workshops. Starting at 8:30 am with the Wow Factor of Event Management, and the other at 10:30am titled Career Paths and Roles within Different Areas of the Event Industry.
