The Travel and Tourism industry is the largest employer in the world with the ambition to keep growing and developing. TRAVEL & TOURISM MEAN JOBS

• OVERALL: World Travel & Tourism Economy GDP is likely to expand by only 0.3% in 2010. But, looking beyond the current crisis, Travel & Tourism is expected to resume its leading, dynamic role in Global Growth (WTTC- 2009)

• GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP): The contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to rise from 9.4% (US$5,474 bn) in 2009 to 9.5% (US$10,478 bn) by 2019 (WTTC- 2009).

CAREER PERSPECTIVES

• EMPLOYMENT: The contribution of the Travel & Tourism economy to total employment is expected to rise from 219,810,000 jobs in 2009, 7.6% of total employment, or 1 in every 13.1 to 303 millions jobs are expected in the hospitality business, representing 1 in every 11 jobs worldwide (UNWTO oultlook for 2020)

GROWTH

• Real GDP growth for the Travel & Tourism economy is expected to average 4.0% per year over the coming 10 years (WTTC- 2009).

EXPORTS

• Export earnings from international visitors and tourism goods are expected to generate 10.9% of total exports (US$1,980 bn) in 2009, growing (in nominal terms) to US$4,132 bn (9.8% of the total) in 2019 (WTTC- 2009).

DID YOU KNOW?

• InterContinental Hotels Group as of December 2010 has 1,293 new hotels with 198,141 rooms therefore they will be looking for employing  1,293 General Managers, 6,465 Senior Management positions and 36,204 supervisory staff.
• Accord as of November 2010 had 60 Senior Management positions vacancies in China, 200 Senior Management positions vacancies in Asia and a total of 10,500 vacaies in operations.
• Total Managerial Positions In The Upper Level Are Estimated At 600,000. (Accenture Study)
• The Rezidor Hotel Group will be looking over the next few years for over 4,000 Department heads and 200 General Managers. (www.rezidor.com)
• Marriot International has announced the opening of 39 new hotels in the Middle East in the coming years. By 2011, they will have a total of 65 hotels operating in this area (Hosteltur, 25th April 2008)
• AC Hotels estimates the recruitment of 1,000 hotel managers in the next 3 year (Editur, 14th March 2008)
• MKG Hospitality has estimated that in North America, Asia and Europe the top 20 International Hotel Chains will be opening more than 8,500 new hotels (average annual growth of 20%), offering over 1.1 million additional rooms by 2015. (HTR Hotel Revue, 3rd April 2008)
