ANDALUSIA

Southern Spain - the land of olive groves and rolling hills of almond blossom, flamenco dancers and gypsy songs and fiestas. This fascinating region offers an incredible medley of sights, sounds, tastes and scents...
 
Visit the most incredible spots, the most renowned wineries of the region (red/white ,“finos” - sherry wine, and “moscatel” sweet wines), and the peculiar elaboration process of the local Spanish beer and olive oil . Travel through the white villages, historical monuments and taste the regional gastronomy, live its flamenco, its people, its traditions……Travel, learn and enjoy the summer with us!
 
The Les Roches Andalusian Gastronomy Summer Program is designed to offer participants a truly culinary experience in a modern campus with purpose built facilities in a relaxed and popular summer holiday destination – Marbella. 
 
This amazing program combines in-situ instruction of local culinary practices and cultural tourism. Earn 3 university credits while discovering the diversity of the Andalusian culture and learning how to prepare some of the finest Andalusian dishes to impress your family and friends. And if this isn’t enough there is also plenty of time to enjoy Marbella’s fabulous beaches, water sports, golf, shopping and its exciting nightlife.
 
 
PROGRAM QUICK FACTS

Location: Marbella (Costa del Sol), Málaga, España
Duration: 2 weeks Andalusian Gastronomy Program with focus on Andalusian Culture
Program dates  18th July 2010 to 1st August 2010
Starting: 19th July 2010
Ends: 31st July 2010
Language of Instruction: Spanish (basic level)
Age:  18 years old (minimum) wishing to acquire specific Andalusian culinary knowledge, learn about its health benefits and experience the Andalusian culture and lifestyle.
Costs: 1,400 Euros. All inclusive except air ticket and pocket money. Students arriving before 18th July will have to find their own accommodation.
   
Uniforms: Upon arrival, students will receive kitchen uniforms and utensils for use during the program.

ACCOMMODATION

Students will be accommodated on the Les Roches Marbella Campus school's residence. The Campus is located in Marbella, one of the most important European tourist destinations. Marbella offers the largest concentration of 4 and 5 star hotels and year-round warm weather; there are beaches, golf resorts, and numerous outdoor activities to suit your lifestyle. With dance clubs, festivals, shows, restaurants, and live bands, you are never short of social options.

The Campus is situated in a residential area, between the city centre of Marbella and and the world famous harbor of Puerto Banús. It is in the heart of the "Costa del Sol" - just 45 minutes from the city of Málaga and its international airport and 45 minutes from Malaga’s train station. It is near the A-7 motorway and the N-340 dual carriageway. It is surrounded by golf courses and is ideally located for other sporting activities.

 
In addition to the on-campus facilities, students have access to numerous all year round recreational and sport activities outside the campus reachable within a few minutes drive by car or by public transport. Participants will experience a truly multicultural campus environment with students from over 50 different nationalities. 

 
PROGRAM'S STRUCTURE: 

 

  • 5 days of Kitchen Operations and 2 days of theoretical classes of appreciation of Andalusian local products (Education)

 

  • 2 excursions of appreciation of Andalusian local products (Education):
    1. Famous winery in Ronda ("tintos", "blancos", "rosados"...)
    2. “San Miguel” local Spanish beer brewery

  

  • 1 day of appreciation of Andalusian local products (Education
    1. Olive oil Oil-mill and a Malaga winery (“Moscatel”, etc.) (mid week)

 

  • 2 days of Cultural Visits:
    1st Visit – Jerez: Visit to the infamous sherry winery and enjoy the white sandy beaches of the region (Costa de la Luz)
    2nd Visit – Granada: Visit to "La Alhambra" and "el Generalife"


 
Students will learn to prepare the most typical Andalusian dishes and local tapas. They will receive wine and beverage knowledge classes and will be introduced to Andalusian local products in situ. 


CULTURAL VISITS 
 
The traditional Andalusian gastronomy is based on the inheritance of the Arabic cuisine and the employment of the basic ingredients of the Mediterranean Diet among which the use of olive oil stands out. The program contemplates a personalized contact with the origin of both cultures, Arab and Andalusian, including programmed cultural visits to Granada and Jerez.

JEREZ 
 
Discover some of the most renoewned wineries of the region and learn the elaboration process and taste its famous sherrys ("finos"), "tintos", "blancos".... Access complete information about "Bodegas Tio Pepe" in Jerez de la Frontera and we encourage you to take a virtual tour of this magnificent winery.

Admire and enjoy the wonderful beaches of Tarifa, the most southern peninsular point of Spain and Europe, one of the most famous tourist destinations of the province of Cadiz, the "Costa de la Luz" and Andalusia.

 

Independently of the cultural and academic content of the program, students will have the possibility of enjoying the beaches and the summer holiday environment of Marbella during their free time. Access to the full calendar of activities in the official website of Marbella's Town Hall

 
EXCURSIONS (FIELD TRIPS) 
 
You will learn the Olive oil production process, the basic ingredient of the Andalusian gastronomy, in one of the most famous oil-mills of the region. Access to more information in the Hojiblanca's official website.

You will visit one of Malaga and Ronda most important wineries.  Taste its red wines, white wines, moscatel (sweet wine) .... the awakening of the senses... and also taste the most typical dishes of this region. In addition, you will learn everything about the peculiar process of the elaboration of Malaga's beer "San Miguel" in its factory.


FACULTY 
 
The summer program is delivered by a team of culinary and service professionals with the required qualifications and renowned industry experience. 

 
DIPLOMA 
  
Upon successful completion of the Les Roches Marbella Andalusian Gastronomy Summer Program, students will be awarded a diploma with 3 credits. (member of LIU) 

 
PROGRAM'S ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

 

  • 18 years old or over with basic culinary concepts 
  • Basic level of Spanish
  • A valid tourist visa

  • Book an airline flight to Malaga arriving on 18th July and departing on 1st August 2010. Check internet sites for good rates!

 

  • After having received the admission letter from us, go online and download the "visa form" from your local Spanish Embassy.  Students are required to have a Tourist visa and it is the responsibility of the participant. 

 

  • Full welcome package will be sent to you after their application is completed.

 

  • Students arriving before the start date of the program must make their own accommodation and travel arrangements.
